1500 yıl önce İngiltere’yi işgal eden bazı Germen kabileleri tarafından konuşulan İngilizce, aydınlanma, gelişim ve değişim sürecinden geçerek günümüze ulaşmış ve bugün küresel bir dil olarak kabul edilmektedir. İngilizce, bu tarihsel gelişmelerin sonucunda uluslararası iletişim, medya ve eğitim, yoluyla yayılmış ve uluslararası ilişkilerde, bilimsel, sanatsal ya da politik toplantılarda kullanılan ortak dil olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İngiliz dilinin dönem dönem değişerek aydınlanmasını ve günümüzde dünya dili haline gelme sürecini örneklendirerek sunmaktır. Çalışma, dil tarihçilerinin İngilizcenin tarihini Eski, Orta ve Modern İngilizce olarak üç ana döneme ayırmalarını temel alarak, İngilizcenin yüzyıllara göre değişimi ve gelişimi incelemektedir.
English, spoken by some Germanic tribes that invaded England 1500 years ago, has reached the present day through a process of enlightenment, development and change and is today accepted as a global language. As a result of these historical developments, English has spread through international communication, media and education and has become the common language used in international relations, scientific, artistic or political meetings. The aim of this study is to present the enlightenment of the English language from time to time and the process of it becoming a world language today by giving examples. The study examines the change and development of English over the centuries, based on the division of the history of English by language historians into three main periods: Old, Middle and Modern English.
